I. Solution design

The BroadVision convergent media (Central Kitchen) solution combines a number of functions including multi-channel and multi-form content acquisition, content acquisition and editing scheduling, content editing and processing, convergent media content and media resource management, content integration and broadcast control, multi-screen content arrangement and publication, multi-mode application delivery, content transmission and distribution, and multi-terminal application support. By providing complete convergent media stream application management, it comprehensively addresses application needs of TV station, radio station, newspaper group, Internet video operators, and other organizations possessing massive digital resource contents. A number of services related to video & audio content convergence management and content resource mining applications are included in this solution.

II. Implementation of main services

2.1 Convergent media content acquisition and editing commanding & scheduling

The convergent media content acquisition and editing commanding & scheduling platform supports WSWG functions, being able to respond to various events in a live broadcast site conveniently and efficiently. Coordinated acquisition, editing, and publication management procedures can be established to fully support multi-channel content acquisition and editing commanding. All contents may be packed and visualized, including various types of acquisition, editing, and publication information and data.


With the acquisition and editing commanding & scheduling platform, reporters can transmit positioning signals to a monitoring and scheduling center via the GPS module and communication network on their mobile phone terminals. The monitoring and scheduling center will then calculate position data with DGPS technique and display the position signals in cartographic language through GIS. This will finally enable the service center to provide relevant functions to reporters such as positioning and navigation, service rescue, remote monitoring, and track recording. Wireless network techniques such as 3G and 4G are used to realize information and image transmission. Images from mobile phone cameras will be transmitted to the monitoring center via 3G and 4G network, thus helping reporters perform remote monitoring and interview scheduling.

 The acquisition and editing commanding & scheduling platform adopts the advanced and mature display technique, 3D real-time rendering and interaction technique, and manuscript data analysis visualization technique to provide comprehensive data support to the screens in the scheduling center. Content acquisition and editing and application management for multiple types of new media service are supported, including IPTV, website, mobile phone APP, and WeChat public account. Various new media application and user data may be gathered and analyzed. Big data analysis is also possible for product operation, implementation of major events, and special public opinion events. Targeted application optimization recommendations will be given based on such analysis.


2.2  3G/4G content acquisition and editing return platform

BroadVision adopts the most advanced Cogent 3G/4G live broadcast return technology in domestic market. Omnimedia reporters may take full advantage of leading media techniques such as 3G/4G transmission, mobile individual acquisition & editing terminal, and mobile phone terminal news publication system to collect, produce, and distribute latest information from the news site in a timely manner. Content production and publication may be performed with an interval of several minutes, resulting in higher content production efficiency.

Cogent 3G/4G live broadcast return technology supports efficient and low-cost mobile video live broadcasting in variable wireless transmission environments like 3G/4G. It may be used for news interview in any place at any time, and support online mobile live broadcast of outdoor events such as large-scale activity and sport race. A news reporter only needs to download a client application to his/her mobile terminal to realize real-time signal shooting and uploading. Signal transmission channel (4G, WIFI, 4G+WIF) and picture quality (bit stream, window size, frame rate, etc.) can be configured during shooting.

The BroadVision mobile acquisition and editing platform allows creation of news release through editing of pictures, audios, and videos gathered in the field and input data. The news release can then be uploaded to the back stage for review, secondary editing or publication. For return of the platform contents, advanced techniques based on years of experiences of BroadVision, such as bandwidth optimization and break point uploading, are used. Such techniques have been successfully used and proven in the video content acquisition and sharing platform of Xinhua News Agency for years.


2.3 Convergent media multi-channel content convergence

※ Internet content acquisition and convergence: Visualized acquisition is adopted. With the graphic flows and screens, a user can complete cloud acquisition of relevant information like news, forum, post bar, blog, microblog, WeChat, and weather by simply clicking or dragging the mouse.

※ Multi-form content acquisition and convergence: Multiple forms of content can be acquired and recorded including video, audio, pictures, text, and rich media. The audio and video contents include acquired and encoded signals from satellite TV, cable TV, digital TV, and camera as well as acquired and recorded signals from video streams like ASI, mms, and TS.

※ Multi-channel content acquisition and convergence: Acquisition and editing of video and audio program contents for traditional newspaper, TV station, and radio station are supported. Convergence of contents from different partners or content providers (CP) is also possible. Other compatible functions include uploading of Internet user generated content (UGC) and 3G/4G content acquisition live broadcast and return.

※ Cross-region and cross-industry resource acquisition and convergence: Resource integration (TV station, radio station, newspaper, and other media resources) among different departments, channels, columns, and regions within an organization is supported. Integration of advantageous resources from different industries is also possible.

2.4 Omnimedia content resource management

The platform focuses on convergence and application of multi-terminal and multi-form contents, realizing streamlined management of various media resource contents in terms of metadata definition, audit marking, attribute cataloguing, classified storage, and retrieval application. Targeted supports are offered to different new media applications such as content packing and distribution. The content convergence, storage, and reuse needs for various new media services can be well satisfied. Besides, concise and efficient resource retrieval and standard content output services are provided for different service systems. These functions have effectively resulted in general convergence, management, and scheduling applications of convergent media content resources.


Depending on needs of different convergent media application patterns, the platform supports production and processing of a variety of new media contents. The specific functions include encoding and transcoding of various types of video and audio contents, content editing and processing based on voice identification, video pre-segmentation, multi-track editing, splitting, deletion, addition of LOGO and station caption and other editing & processing capabilities, and acquisition and processing of pictures and text.

2.5  Convergent media content integrated broadcast control

 The fully IP-based signal source management, integrated scheduling, and pure software operation adopted by the platform enables general management from IP stream integration broadcast control, IP stream multi-screen monitoring to IP stream distribution service, thus providing TV stations and radio stations with efficient and convenient general solutions during their IP-based new media transformation.


2.6  Convergent media interactive studio application

※ Interactive studio: The omnimedia content convergence platform gathers contents from Internet (including specialized website, microblog, WeChat, weather, traffic condition, and community information) and hot lines, and delivers them to the live broadcasting room, where the broadcast director and executive editor can complete content screening, entry, and pushing through the platform. The general platform allows the hosts to communicate directly and interactively with users of microblog, WeChat, client, and hot line during live broadcasting. Chatting and instant lottery in the live broadcast room and the directing room are also possible. The live broadcast site can be perfectly preserved for further use.


Host community / We-Media platform application: Different communities and columns are managed through a self-management system. Famous reporters and hosts are welcomed to open original columns and communities on the new media platform to develop popular public accounts. The hosts, broadcast directors, and executive editors for different columns may publish various activities in their respective communities (such as sign-up, voting, lottery, donation, and shopping) and hold live shows of interactive posts. The hosts can communicate with Internet users by means of private letters and community interaction. Hosts have the right to perform back stage management and maintain their own programs, including program uploading, editing, and online/offline control. Data related to community popularity, interaction level, number of activity participants, program sharing, downloading, and audience rating can be viewed in real time. Special platforms are built for interactions between hosts and audience. Station-wide joint broadcasting / interactive live broadcasting: Joint interactive live broadcasting by different channels, columns, and reporters is encouraged. 2.7 Content monitoring and feedback based on big data

The BroadVision convergent media solution often uses big data technology to support cross-screen and cross-equipment visitor tracking. Visits to different PC stations, micro-stations, and APP terminals will be cross checked to prevent data segregation. Users are tracked accurately based on the contents they have viewed, the topics they have clicked, their inputs, and events triggered by them. The real-time user portrait function provides data support for well targeted visitor marketing. Data collection can be completed in multiple dimensions including time slot, region, version, terminal, start times, visit duration, and page analysis.
